Here are a few questions you may have when trying to pick the best house paint for your project.

As a home owner, it's important to keep your house looking its best. One way to do this is by painting it periodically. But what's the best house paint to use? There are many different types of paint available, and each has its own benefits and drawbacks. In this blog post, we'll discuss the different types of paint available and help you decide which one is right for you. So whether you're planning on painting your house yourself or hiring a professional, read on for tips on how to choose the best paint for your needs.

1. Does the grade of paint matter?

Every paint company has lower, middle, and high grade paint. With lower grade paint, you are going to get what you paid for. Watered down paint that tends to not cover well or hold up over time. I would advise to stay away from these paints if you can.

Many middle grade paints are quality paint that covers and lasts well. Middle grade paint is typically made from a higher quality resin than lower grades of paint, which gives it greater durability and resistance to fading, chipping, and other forms of damage. For the majority of projects, we tend to use this tier of paint.

Higher grade paints tend to only be needed for specific types of painting like cabinets.

2. Are certain brands better than others?

The best cabinet paint on the market is Sherwin Williams Emerald

It’s expensive but has a self leveling feature and hardens well. However, it’s not easy to paint with if you’ve never used it.

The best wall paint on the market is Behr Marquee.

Their paint is thicker and designed with a special covering technique that has the best chance to cover in one coat and last. They also have a special line of one coat colors you can pick from. And the price is very reasonable.

The best ceiling paint on the market is Behr Flat ceiling paint.

This paint covers the best out of all ceiling paints we have used and is not expensive.

The best exterior paint on the market is either Behr Ultra or Sherwin Williams Duration

Both products cover well and are reasonably priced. Valspar Duramax is a close second product.

Deck products

A quick word on decks, there is not a product made that can guarantee you won’t have to seal your deck every year or two. The reality is, wood is a porous product. Rain, snow, and heat all take a toll on the wood and sealer. It just wears out quickly. I have multiple decks and have to power wash and seal them every year.  I use Thompson’s Water Sealer on wood that is not stained every year, which is very reasonably priced. If your deck is colored you will have to use a Solid Stain. I would recommend not to spend a lot of money on higher priced products. And not the Rhino lining type of products, we’ve had many people ask if we can strip it because of not holding up, we don’t touch those jobs.

3. Is cheap always bad quality?

Usually yes, but not always. Best advice is to use the right product for the material you are painting. Interior painting, exterior painting, and cabinet painting all involve different surface materials so different paints will work best. Don’t assume better brand names that are higher priced are better quality. I’ve listed earlier the brands we like to use for certain jobs. They have been tested thoroughly and give us amazing results.
